RYA Club of the Year Award

This is a prestigious national award in which we were up against 1300 sailing and yacht clubs from across the UK - Penzance Sailing Club was one of the five national finalists.

The award has been presented for our work as a club encouraging 'sailing across our community'.

What the RYA has to say:

"...Penzance Sailing Club in Cornwall is the only finalist based on the coast. Unlike the others it has a large cruising and racing fraternity in both dinghies and yachts. These are quite different groups however the club manages to ensure that everyone mixes and events are organised to incorporate as many different groups as possible.

With its welcoming family atmosphere, efficient volunteers and links with local school and youth groups through the RYA’s OnBoard scheme the club has worked really hard to grow it’s junior membership.

In a nutshell Penzance Sailing Club is very well managed and has set up efficient and effective methods of running their operations. It is proactive in gaining new members and with very low membership fees, ensures accessibility is as wide as possible to the local community...."

RYA OnBoard Cornish Club of the Year

Presented for our work encouraging Youth sailing and awarded by the RYA - sailing's national governing body.

The RYA highlighted our work with our School Sailing Clubs and our School Sailing Week.

In particular he praised the Youth Sailing Committee - the only sailing committee made up solely of under 18s within a club in Cornwall.
