The Dinghy Fleet We sail a wide range of boats from Mirror Dinghies through to Ospreys. However, we do have certain classes that we encourages: Mirror Fleet The Mirror is a small two-person sailing dinghy, ideal for pleasure sailing, racing and teaching. It is a gunter rigged dinghy with a symmetric spinnaker very distinctive by its bright red sails that can often be seen in the bay. It is very popular with and is the preferred starter boat for young people at Penzance. It has a successful Mirror Class Association providing racing through from Area Championships, up to World Championships. Laser Fleet The Laser is a single-handed una rigged dinghy. It is a strict one-design class meaning that is is controlled by tight rules on the boat. Each one is therefore virtually identical. It is an Olympic class and racing is very well organized all the way from club level, through Regional, National, European and World Championships. The UKLA (UK Laser Association) is very organized and is actively involved in the racing programme. Boats are available locally for a very reasonable sum, ranging from £100 to £4000, depending on the age and condition of the boat, and these will normally be ready to sail. Handicap Fleet The handicap fleet allows dinghies that don't have a fleet at Penzance to race competitively against each other.
