Mary Wales & Cadet Cup 2009

Seventeen young sailors took part in the youth event at Penzance sailing club on Sunday. With a good breeze from the north Race Officer Julian Moore, set a medium sized starboard hand course for the young sailors.

Sailing in heats for the Mary Wales (13 and under) in the club’s Pico training dinghies. With three sailors from each heat going through to the final.

After a close race for the top position the overall winner was Rebecca Stephens winning the Mary Wales Cup with Grace Wilkins second and Henrietta Wilkinson third.

In the Cadet Cup (under 18) the four competitors were joined by the top two from the Mary Wales Cup, the rounds were increased and there was close racing for the top places, with Rebecca Knee winning the Cadet Cup for the second year running with Ben Wilkinson second and Rebecca Stephens third.

The prizegiving was held after lunch in the clubhouse with Commodore Mike Winiberg presented the prizes, Mike thanked everyone who was involved in running of another great event.
