Frostbite Series ends in Festive Fun
The Frostbite Series came to a festive end at Penzance Sailing Club this week with the annual ‘Christmas Pudding Race’, Frostbite prizegiving and Christmas Meal.
This year’s series has been highly successful, attracting a total of sixty sailors from all over Penwith which produced some very exciting racing. In all fleets there has been some very close racing over the series with the lead changing on a number of occasions.
Over the eleven weeks the sailors experienced every possible wind and weather condition from light wind sailing all the way through to near gales and everything in between.
At Sunday’s prizegiving each sailor received a Christmas pudding; in line with tradition; and Mike Winiberg took time to thank the team of volunteers who have helped to put on the events including the galley team who served up the day’s feast.
In the Handicap fleet Terry and Oriel Marks in their Enterprise came out in first place winning the Mirror Trophy, closely following by Andrew Baker in the Red Eye Solution. In the Lasers Sam Kent was awarded the W.C.Matthews and Son Trophy with Brian Aldgate and Tim Cardell in second and third places respectively. While in the Mirror class Eric Taylor, Stansbury-Shepherd and Tom Cutter were awarded the Scillonian Trophy for first overall.
Meanwhile Stansbury-Shepherd and Tom Cutter were also award the Gry Maritha Trophy for the first under 18s in the series and Suzannah Kent was won the Skybus Trophy for the first lady.
